The Twin Tec 1250 FTi’s outstanding stability can be attributed to two things: metal platelets at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions of the head and a stiff graphite tube, called Twin Tec, inside the throat. Both technologies help keep the racquet from turning on off-center hits. The net result for your game? Even bad strokes can produce good shots. And while the Twin Tec 1250 FTi could be called the SUV of the racquet world–— it’s oversized and powerful—–it’s also surprisingly versatile. A large segment of testers, from novices to intermediates, said the blend of power and control was excellent with a short and, especially, medium-length swing. At net, volleys had good zip, though the maneuverability could have been better. The frame’s comfort, while decent, wouldn’t make this the right pick for someone who wants an ultra-forgiving feel. But if you wish to add stability to your game, you can’t go wrong with this racquet.BOTTOM LINE:
Exceptional stability should make this a hit.

You’re a scrappy player whose game is based not so much on putting the ball away as it is on getting it back. Naturally, you covet a racquet with excellent maneuverability, which you’ll find here.

COMPARE TO:
Fischer Pro Impact FT

HOW IT TESTED:
The Fischer Pro No. 1 Impact FT was a favorite among all-courters in the NTRP range of 3.5 to 4.5. They loved the racquet’s maneuverability and whippy feel in the throat, which is created by the frame’s tapered cross section (it’s thicker in the head and thinner in the throat). These characteristics helped players swing aggressively and create angles off the ground and on serves. But the whippy cross section might have detracted from control, as testers tended to miss their mark when they tried to end the point with a big shot. Unlike most racquets, the Pro No. 1 Impact FT doesn’t have any vibration-dampening technology in the handle. The Feedback Grip is, simply put, a stiff shaft designed to send vibrations to your hand for extra feel. Don’t worry, the racquet’s not uncomfortable— Fischer adheres pieces of metal on the racquet to “tune” the vibration frequencies—but the frame isn’t ideal if you want a cushioned sensation.

BOTTOM LINE:
It lacks the precision to satisfy control players but has the maneuverability to please all-courters and net-rushers.

Think of this advanced-player’s model as magnet therapy for your racquet. When you hit a ball, both sides of a racquet head slightly deform and bow toward each other. Fischer claims that by placing electromagnets that repel each other at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions of the head, it will return to its original position more forcefully and catapult the ball for more power. Does it work?

COMPARE TO:
Fischer Pro No. 1 FT

HOW IT TESTED:
While it’s tough to tell what effect, if any, the magnets have, this much we noticed: The M Pro No. 1 puts a slight charge into your shots if you have a long, fast swing. You may also notice the unique beam shape. Whereas most frames have side walls of equal measure, or ones that get thicker as you move from the head toward the handle, this model is fatter in the head and skinnier in the throat. The tapered design gives the racquet a whippy feel, which appealed most to power baseliners who hit with lots of topspin and play the angles. At net, playtesters said that maneuverability was excellent, but they struggled to consistently stick their volleys, perhaps because the frame is so flexible in the throat.

BOTTOM LINE:
Not ideal for serve-and-volleyers but excellent for scrappy baseliners who want a little more pop.

HOW IT TESTED:
Although it’s not a household name in the States, Fischer’s racquets are popular in Europe. The company’s latest model is made with advanced players in mind. At more than 12 ounces, the M Comp 95 is a heavy stick that doesn’t provide much in the way of power. It’s also a ? exible frame and can feel springy at ? rst, but after you spend some time with it, you’ll ? nd it delivers a comfortable hitting experience and allows for creative shot-making. If you’ve got long, fast strokes and can routinely ? nd the sweet spot, this frame has plenty to offer. Surprisingly, many intermediate playtesters liked it, too. While recognizing it takes a strong player to maneuver the weight, they appreciated the control, stability, and comfort. With the M Comp 95, Fischer has also introduced “No Tolerance Technology,” which isn’t technology per se, but a quality-control feature. Typically, two racquets of the same model have slight variances in weight and balance that discerning players can pick up on. Fischer guarantees that each of the M Comp 95 frames will have exactly the same specs.

BOTTOM LINE:
Accomplished players with big swings who favor fl exible racquets should take a look at this one.
